For those currently emersed in the new documentary The American Revolution (Ken Burns) and looking to dive deeper into the history, this book is an excellent choice. Rick Atkinson, Pulitzer Prize-winning author featured in the documentary now streaming on PBS, writes a detailed history of the first year of the Revolution.  The British Are Coming is thus the first in a trilogy of detailed accounts of the Revolution.

From pre-war tensions to Boston, Quebec, and New York, the book provides vivid details on the characters and events of that first year.  Atkinson takes the reader along the campaigns in each of the major theaters, highlighting the struggles, the uncertainties, and the conflicting perspectives on the burgeoning conflict.

If you’re looking for a chance to zoom into the military aspects of the opening months of the war, The British Are Coming provides a detailed and compelling account.  We recommend it!
